Yvette Tollar is, simply put, Canada's leading modern jazz vocalist. She sings with sincerity, warmth and wit.
She returns to Budapest for the second time in 10 years joined by long time band mates, Hungarian born Robi Botos on piano (Winner of the Montreux Jazz Festival Solo Piano Award) and Frank Botos on drums (Winner of the Krakow International Jazz Competition) as well as world renowned bassist, Rich Brown (James Blood Ulmer, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Steve Coleman).
In 2009, Yvette joined an elite group of Canadian vocalists when her latest CD, Ima, was recognized with a highly coveted, JUNO Award Nomination for Best Vocal Jazz Album Of The Year. The JUNO Awards are Canada's top musical honours. Ms Tollar has studied in New York City and at the Banff Centre For The Arts with jazz legends, Sheila Jordan, Dave Holland and Kenny Werner. In 2008 The Ontario Arts Council named Yvette recipient of the prestigious, Chalmers Arts Fellowship to compose music to accompany poetry written by Hungarian Jozsef Tollar.
