The brand new group plays compositions of Thelonious Monk. He is one of the greatest composers of jazz history. Monk's music is much as the man himself was - quirky, eccentric and seemingly shambolic on the surface, but in reality cleverly innovative. Though definitely in the bop camp with his original ideas on melody and harmony, a Harlem stride influence can clearly be heard is his piano playing. Many of his songs are now jazz classics.
