András Dés started his musical studies with classical percussion lessons. Later he became interested in different instruments used in folk music. He began playing congas and bongos and following performances with a school band specialized on Sephard Jewish music, he became familiar with the instruments of the Middle East. Today he considers the frame drums (riq, bodhran), the 'kanna' (special Hungarian gipsy instrument) and the darbouka as his main instruments. His basic musical direction is 'close-to-jazz' improvisational music, but he also participates actively in experimental groups mixing folk-music with modern electronic genres such as 'Mitsoura' named after the singer Mónika Miczura. Besides Horváth Kornél he is another great percussion player in Hungary - it was time to form his own band.
